Potato Sprouted!
Sprouted potatoes produce solanine and shouldn't be eaten, but you can plant them to grow new potatoes or compost them!
1Potato lives in a dark, cold kitchen cupboard. One day, he discovers green sprouts growing from his head. Potato is scared: "I've sprouted! Will my owner throw me in the trash?"
2Sure enough, the owner opens the cupboard, sees the sprouts, frowns, and picks Potato up heading for the bin. Potato squeezes his eyes shut, thinking his life is over. Suddenly, the little daughter runs over: "Daddy, don't throw it away! Teacher says sprouted potatoes can be planted!"
3The little girl plants Potato in a pot of soil. Potato feels warm and safe. After a few weeks, green leaves stretch out from the soil, and Potato sees sunlight for the first time!
4A few months later, many new potatoes grow in the pot! The little girl jumps for joy. Potato feels proud: though he has become part of the soil, his life continues in another way — nurturing new life.
